Pinto Sweetheart

Halle is the sweetheart for Colby's baseball team. On Saturday, they had a fundraiser contest & Halle won, earning the title for the Pinto league sweetheart. She raised $352! She had some help, of course. A friend brought a baby pig to the Fun Day Tournament and people could donate to determine which coach had to kiss the pig at the end of the day. Coach Clint had to kiss the pig! It turned out really cute & Halle was very excited to win a crown & sash & get her picture taken for the newspaper. Taylor & Colby were her biggest fans.

Cinderella, the Ballet

Taylor & I were able to go on a really fun mom & me date. Taylor got a great new dress for the event... which she always loves. First, we went to a luncheon at the Beaumont Hotel to eat with Cinderella, the Prince, & the Fairy Godmother. The decorations were adorable and the birds and mice served all of us (in costume & character). We greeted Cinderella, who arrived in a limo. She was signing autographs! Taylor took a picture with Cinderella, who gave her a crown and wand. After lunch, we went to the Julie Rogers Theatre to see Cinderella, the Ballet. Cinderella was actually a young woman (Morgan Allen) from our church, so it made the ballet that much more fun to watch. She is extremely, extremely talented. Taylor was giddy and excited all day. She said it was so fun and asked if we could take Halle when she turned five. It's always fun to see her face light up so much.

Dozer Help!

It's about time I put something on my blog to move that last negative post down the line! Here are some pics that show how BIG Dozer has gotten - so quickly! He is six months old and we are experiencing all the puppy problems that go along with that! If anybody has a tip on training him not to jump up so much... I would really appreciate them! We have tried several tips I've found online but so far, to no avail. He is still about the friendliest dog I have ever seen. Jared is taking him running every morning about 3 miles - but he is so full of energy.

It's a...

I had my ultrasound this morning and the great news is that the baby is healthy & I only have one baby in there!

The bad news... I heard the same thing I did when I went for my ultrasound with Colby. "It's a girl, I think. But I could be wrong." And because I heard the exact same thing with Colby and he turned out to be a boy, I don't have any confidence that there's even more of a chance its a girl than a boy. Its just so fun to have an ultrasound and then come home and know what you are having. It is not fun to go to your ultrasound and come home having no confidence that you know anything more than before you went. I've never been given more than one ultrasound so I can't imagine that I will this time either.

The other bad news... my due date is later than I thought. I am due August 13th and Jared is supposed to start dental school August 12th. This should be really interesting!

Sorry to sound so bummed... but I guess I just was this morning.

Rubix Cube - Sally Sue?

I thought of another funny/really sad story I wanted to record before I forget to put it in Colby's scrapbook. There is a song I sing to my kids a lot - that my mom used to sing to us. Here are the lyrics, as I remember them...

I had a little Jelly Bean; her name was Sally Sue.
She could do most anything a Jelly Bean could do!
She'd talk with me & walk with me, sing songs into my ear
She could do most anything... even drinking root beer!

Sally Sue, I love you.

One day as I was walking along, I dropped her on the floor
My poor old Sally Sue went rolling out the door!
I hunted up and down the streets, searched all through the town.
My poor old Sally Sue was no where to be found.

After many years of constant search, I traveled miles afar.
I finally decided my Sally Sue had been crushed by a car!
Then one day as I was coming home, I found my Sally Sue
She'd been with me all along on the bottom of my shoe.

When we were in Austin for the hurricane evacuation, my brother gave Colby the next level in Rubik's Cubes (the 4X4 Rubik's Cube).

We went to the park and Colby couldn't put it down at first. But he did and then forgot it at the park. We realized it later that night and went to search for it at the park. A kid told us that somebody found it and took it to their house. This Rubik's cube meant enough to Colby that I went to that person's house and asked if they had the Rubik's cube. They did, but it had fallen apart into pieces and was in their garbage with a bunch of trash. Colby was devastated! As I was laying down with Colby that night, I sang him the Sally Sue song and he totally started crying! I asked him what was wrong and he said that the song reminded him of his Rubik's Cube!! Thankfully, Roice saved the day and brought Colby a new one the very next day.

Gospel Principles

Jared's friend, Tony, told Colby a month or so ago that if he read the Gospel Principles Manual by March 8th, he would buy him a Webkinz. The Gospel Principles manual is the adult Sunday School manual for new members of our church. Colby came home that first day and read maybe 8 chapters, so I called Tony to make sure he was being serious. He didn't really expect a 6 year old to read a 300+ page book about doctrine, but he was being serious. Well, Colby finished it in time and he got his Webkinz (a lizard) tonight. He is so excited - so thank you Tony!

Here are a couple of funny stories about what he learned...

- "Oh, there really was a war in heaven! My (primary teacher) told me there wasn't one."

- Colby gets to the chapter on chastity which says to make sure children are old enough to understand sexual relations before discussing the material in the chapter. Colby showed me the first line... to which I told him he could skip that chapter. No questions asked... he was so excited he got to skip a chapter. Whew! I still have another year or so before I have to explain that one!

- Colby gets to the chapter on family responsibilities. Everyone is asleep at our house except for Colby & me and we are both reading. Colby stops me to read aloud the responsibilities of a parent. He tells me that the best way for parents to teach children is by example and that we need to be firm, but kind. He told me I was doing pretty good on the firm part... but that I needed to work on the kind part. Thanks pal... I've been working on that. :) He also saw that children have a responsibility to contribute to the happiness of a home. He pointed at that sentence and just smiled really cute at me.

- The missionaries came over to eat dinner with us and they always leave us with a short message. They asked Colby if he knew what the steps to repentance were. Colby whipped out his book and turned right to the page that talked about it... it actually surprised me and was really funny.
