Celebrity Look-A-Like?

On Friday we took Colby to the optometrist's office to get him new glasses. The optometric technician started off with just the kind of compliment every mother wants to hear. She said, "Oh my goodness, your daughter is just precious! She is so adorable."

This lady's doing well so far, right?

She continued, "She reminds me of this little girl I use to see in day care. I never thought I'd see another little girl like that. Just a little Conan O'Brien, isn't she?"

I said, "Oh, thank you."

Hold on. Wait... WHAT did she just say? Did she really just say that my little baby girl looks like Conan? I wasn't offended, really. I immediately started chuckling inside. But I am dumbfounded at the things people think are appropriate to say to others. People are really interesting to me sometimes. Was she trying to give me a compliment? Two days later and I'm still completely perplexed. I was cracking up when I told Jared about it and I laugh every time I think about it. We can't help but call our little Avalyn, "Conan" now.

So what do you think? Can you see the striking resemblance?

Day Trip to Stephen F. Austin

Did you know that Stephen F. Austin brought the first 297 families to Texas and they settled basically in our backyard? I somehow missed that fascinating little fact! Colby needed to visit a historic site for scouting so we drove just 20 minutes away to Stephen F. Austin state park and historical site. We had such a blast, despite the raging heat. We were able to climb all over a home similar to the what the early settlers would have lived in, eat a picnic lunch in a beautiful secluded state park, and journey on a hike with a river destination. At the end of the hike, Halle said, "I can't believe we hiked THAT far and didn't whine one time! I couldn't believe it either, especially b/c it was in the middle of the day in August. The rangers at the park thought I was crazy for coming by myself with four little kids. But it really was fun and the kids have asked more than once to go back.

Sari Girls

Look what our friends from India brought back with them for the girls! I can hardly keep Halle's off of her. They want to wear these for Halloween, so I guess I'm just giving you a sneak peek.

Can you believe...

I have a son old enough to do this?
